Today’s review is on  LALALA Cleanser.

This review is going to be a really long one and I will try to go into as much detail as I can because while using the LALALA Cleanser I learned a lot! I damaged my skin and it has been a slow process of rehabilitation.

I got the LALALA Cleanser when my skin doctor cleanser finished and I decided I wanted to give the Lalala one a trial to replace the skin doctor cleanser. At the store, I saw the Orange and the black bottle but I decided to go for the black one because I saw it helps with exfoliating the skin.

Normally, I do not exfoliate my face. I do not use any physical exfoliant or any scrubs because of how sensitive my face is and I’ve been trying to break into the chemical exfoliating scene.  So getting this was supposed to help supplement exfoliating my face.

Product Details: LALALA is a product of the Skin Doctor brand. It comes in 3 variants: Green, Orange and black. All of them are in 100ml bottle sizes. The one I will be reviewing is the black bottle. It is an exfoliating and lightening lotion that works for Exfoliating, Anti Stains and firming. Contains fruit acides.

Price: 2,000 – 3,000 naira for 100ml. Price May Vary Based on your location.

My Experience:  I have a love and hate relationship with the LALALA Cleanser, here’s why.

When I started using it, it was perfect. Within 2 weeks of use, my face was visibly brighter and for the longest time, I’ve struggled with my face feeling a shade darker than my body. Everyone commented on how smooth and bright my face looked and I absolutely loved it!

I was enjoying this product. Enjoying it so much that I used it twice a day, morning and night. Which was my biggest mistake. Because it is exfoliating, I was not supposed to use it every day not to speak of using it twice a day and that was the downfall with my skin.

After almost exactly 2 weeks, that was smooth, brighter and even started breaking out in pimples. The pimples were red, bumpy with teeth! They itched and hurt too.

That was not going away. I thought it was my soap at first, then I thought it was the Egg yolk serum I used which I stopped it. I stopped literally everything except LALALA but the pimples did not go away.

Then I started trying out everything I knew to clear the pimples, from anti-fungal cream, bought a new cleanser, tried the Cacatin cream and while it reduced the pimples a bit, it did not take it away. The pimples had started to leave some spots on my face also so it was now double trouble for me. Nothing was working for me because I was treating the wrong problem.

So, I stopped everything and limited myself to only the Roushun AHA/BHA/PHA cleanser (which was not the best option because AHA/BHA/PHA is an exfoliating agent), hoping and praying it would work. That was until I started to do some research online and realised that my skin was suffering due to “Over Exfoliation!” Then it made sense.

Signs of over exfoliation include, developing a rashlike texture, leading to uneven tone (like patchy, red blotches).

Breakouts are another common reaction, especially small, rough, bumpy pimples.

Your face becomes too shiny
Your breakouts are getting worse
Your skin feels like crepe paper

Your skin feels tight

Increased sensitivity to other skincare products even without prior sensitivities.

After reading this I knew I had to change my skincare routine. I had to resort to only calming, soothing and moisturising products to allow my skin to heal and recover calmly. All I did was cleanse, tone and moisturize. I had to focus heavily on moisturizing.

I poured it into a smaller bottle to allow me easy use because the bottle is breakable and does not pour out easily.

  • Very effective and active.
  • Affordable when compared to other chemical exfoliants out there.
  • Does not have a drying texture like a lot of toners.
  • It feels more like a serum than toner in my opinion.
  • Works very good for brightening your skin and smoothening the texture.
  • Helps in exfoliating your facial skin.

  • Will result in over-exfoliation if it is overused.
  • Not for everyday use.
  • Works best for tougher skin.

Rating: 4/5

Use this Lalala cleanser with caution. It is very strong and effective and if you have sensitive skin, you may want to step back. People with really tough skin would have little issues with this cleanser.

Here are some tips on how to use it:

  • Use once or twice a week and to be used only at night. Not for daily use.
  • Use the cleanser with mild, calming and soothing moisturizers.
  • Should not be used with other skincare actives like salicylic acid, glycolic acid, AHA, BHA, PHA and/or any other exfoliating active ingredient. Limit your exfoliation to 1 product.
  • Use sunscreen!!.

If I ever buy the orange LALALA Cleanser, I will do a review on it but for now, I decided not to.

I really like this particular LALALA Cleanser. I like the fact that it is exfoliating and I have limited my use to once or twice a week. It worked perfectly well for my skin, I just have to mind my use of it.

If you have tried any of them, kindly share your experience in the comment section below.

Until my next post! Kisses!
