Hi Lovelies,

I hope you are all doing well.

For the past few days/weeks, I have been on a skin recovery journey. Now, it’s not as bad as it sounds but I have been trying to skin build. I noticed that my skin has gotten a bit thinner, my veins have become more visible in many uncommon areas of my body.  I’ve been on a skin rejuvenating journey and I cannot begin to explain how much damage my skin has received. Before I proceed, I would like to talk about what has been the problem and what the solution is.

What is Skin Thinning?

Skin thinning is where your skin has become thinner and lacks density. Simply put, skin thinning causes your skin to be “transparent”. Signs of a thinned out skin include; Visible veins in unusual places, uneven skin tone in some areas, and this can result in you getting easily bruised, burned, and the likes. Causes of skin thinning include

  1. Usage of steroids.
  2. Use of strong skin lightening products.
  3. Over exfoliation of the skin
  4. Excess use of hydroquinone.
  5. Using a harsh mixture of skincare products.

So, take a good look at your skin today, if you realize that places like your face, arms, thighs, legs, or feet are showing a ridiculous amount of veins, then you may be suffering from skin thining also. As for me, mine was caused by over-exfoliation. Exfoliation is good but apparently I’ve been doing too much of it, I used an exfoliating sponge daily with soaps that contain AHA together with a strong salt scrub 3 to 4 times a week. So, you can imagine how much exfoliating and skin peeling my skin was going through. Hence the solution, Skin Building!.

What is Skin Building?

Skin building is the process of “building” your skin to give it the density, texture and nutrients it needs to help you protect your body. Skin building if done rightly also helps to give beautiful skin. Ways you can skin build include;

  • Reduce the use of steroids and strong skin lightening products.
  • Use of oils, body butter, and other skin-nourishing products.
  • Stick to one or maximum 2 means of exfoliation and avoid over-exfoliation
  • Take supplements that can help rejuvenate your skin from the inside
  • Use skin care products that contain Collagen as collagen helps to build the skin, strengthen the skin, and increase the elasticity of your skin. Collagen benefits to the skin are endless!!
  • Moisturise!!!

As for me, I have started to use a different range of products than my usual and I’ve also stopped over-exfoliating my skin. I hope to be able to recover my skin as time goes on. Expect reviews on products I use as I go on.

I will post reviews on products I have been using soon.

Until my next post, Kisses!!!
