Today’s review will be a bit longer than usual so pardon me in advance. Today I want to review CT+ Clear Therapy Serum with carrot oil.

Disclaimer: This product does contain hydroquinone.

As usual, I always find out about products as a result of my curiosity regarding skincare products. Out of the numerous skincare products, serums and oils have been my biggest obsessions. I tire easily when using lotions so, when I got to know about this serum from a friend, I jumped at the chance and got mine.

Before I started using this serum/oil, I spent the first 3 days reading about hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is the most popular and if not the most effective skin lightening product in the world. It has garnered such bad reviews. Some researchers say that hydroquinone has been linked to skin cancer, hyperpigmentation, vicarious veins, thinning skin, etc. Also, it has been banned in some parts of the world like the UK. In other parts, hydroquinone is mostly recommended on prescriptions as an over the counter treatment of 2% for hyperpigmentation, scarring, and dark marks. Prolonged use is strongly discouraged. Whilst I cannot confirm or deny a lot of these things, to protect my skin, I decided to set up a few rules for myself. They include;

  • Not using this product for more than 2 months at a go.
  • Monitoring my skin for anything off or odd.
  • Avoiding sun exposure like a plague.

With these in mind, I decided to go ahead to try it.

This is my second ever encounter with hydroquinone. The difference is, this time, I wanted to be fully equipped with as much knowledge as I could get regarding hydroquinone as my obsession with trying out this serum was not going away.

Product Details: CT+ Clear Therapy Serum with carrot oil is a product of DREAM COSMETICS and comes in a 75ml pump bottle. CT+ Clear Therapy has products that range from the Soap, 2 lotions and serum to my knowledge. The serum also has the range that comes without the carrot oil.

Price: 900naira. Price may vary based on your location.

Ingredients: Aqua (Purified Water), Glycerin, Alcohol, Fruit Acids, Kojic Acid, Allantoin, BHT, Carrot Oil, Perfume, Hydroquinone 2%.

My Experience

The texture, smell, size, packaging, and effectiveness of this serum are amazing. I applied it directly to my skin, as I saw my friend do. It did not break me out or give me reactions. Although I strongly dislike the tint it gave to my skin. For a few days after noticing the tint, I abandoned it but I did not throw it out. I wanted this serum to work and remembering how my friend’s skin looked made me more determined to figure out a way to use it.

So, I ended up mixing a small amount of the serum with Clinic clear lotion, which I had already started using at the time, and there! An almost perfect combination.

Adding this serum and glycerin to the lotion took my skin lightening to a whole new level. The combination lightened as little as 5 days after with this golden tint which I don’t know if I am okay with. After a while, I gradually started to wean myself off the lotion because I was getting too light and I do not like the shade it gave me still. I tire easily when it comes to using lotions and creams as I said earlier, so, I have abandoned it.

  • Lovely scent and beautiful texture.
  • Very affordable and effective.
  • Lightens the skin very very fast, as early as 5days.
  • Nice packaging.

  • Contains hydroquinone.
  • Stains and gave me this yellow skin color that I did not like.

Rating 6/10

This serum is effective. Lightens as early as 5-7 days which is not up to 10days as stated. There are other skin lightening agents like Kojic acid, AHA, Licorice extracts, Mulberry extracts, Bearberry extracts, Lactic acid, Glutathione, Papaya Extracts, to mention a few, that are very effective at skin lightening.

My friend’s experience with this serum emphasizes my point that people’s skins are different because this serum works perfectly for her. She recently purchased another bottle. If you use hydroquinone and do not have any issues with it, it is advised that you cycle or recycle your use of hydroquinone. Maximum of 3 months off and 3 months on just to be safe.

If your skin is not compatible with hydroquinone please do not start it. Be safe with your skin.

I ended up trying out the other variant of this serum, CT+ Clear therapy serum with plant extracts, the one without carrot oil. Unlike the previous time, I diluted this with just glycerin and coconut oil, no lotion, and used it for around 2 weeks.

This has a different color and scent from the one with carrot oil but has the same texture. Did not stain me or give me that yellowish tone I hate, rather it corrected the color and lightened me quite beautifully. I disposed of the one with carrot oil. I like the CT+ Clear therapy serum with plant extracts. Find a picture attached below.
